Can A Novice Grow A Fruit Tree In Zone 6b (pa)? My Kids Want A Cherry Tree? Will It Bear Fruit?

My kids want to plant a fruit-bearing tree. I think it won’t bear fruit in this coldish climate. Can you grow a cherry or other fruit tree in zone 6? Thanks!!
