When Do You Think It’s Good To Start Grow Vegetables & Fruits?

one more thing; i live in an apartment with no garden but at least i have a fire escape so is it a good idea to start grow my own small vegs & fruits garden in my fire escape? i’m doing it for save money, try to be on the right track of stay healthy! ![]()
GO GREEN!

It all depends on where you live. I live in the Midwest so I will start some time in May when the ground is warm enough and the days are sunnier and warm. The good thing about you doing it on a fire escape is that you will be able to easily bring in your plants in case of a frost.
If you don’t live in the south where it’s warmer and you have winters with snow on the ground, I would wait until at least mid May. Just because the nurseries have the plants out, does not mean it’s a good time to plant them. Frost has hit in my areas up until almost June, so if you aren’t aware of the weather for the week you can watch your money go down the drain. Start around the end of May.
When you see plants start appearing in nurseries and garden centers it will be the right time to grow veggies. Keep in mind that they need 6 hours of sun per day. When growing in containers you will need to water each day at the same time of day. During the hotter days you will need to water in the mornings and in the evenings.
It depends where you live. I have friends who are in the same situation (live in apartments). I suggested to them to put a large tub on your fire escape filled with compost and soil and grow things from there. Depending upon where you live you can start growing things now…
It’s not a good idea. It’s a brilliant idea!
It’s fun too, and rewarding! =D
