What Are Best Type Of Vegetables To Grow In Southern Texas?

My dad and I are starting a small garden about 8×10 feet what are the best types of things to grow in it?We ar’nt doing it for food realy its just a project for us to do so we can spend more time together.I like watermellons but theres not enough room. What about strawberries?

    Strawberries will be fine, tomates. onions,potatoes, peas, beans,anything that doesn’t grow on a long vine, southern Texas has excellent soil for growing anything. I would love to live down there again. I grew up near Portland, Texas.

    Well, watermelons are not vegetables, so you might want to clarify your question… Do you want to grow a mixed garden? How about corn? Squash? How much time are you planning to spend tending the garden?
