Is It Possible To Grow Vegetables In South Dakota In The Winter Time ?

Posted by admin on February 2, 2010

Actually we just moved from Rapid City and I managed it. Also had really good dirt and lots of sunny windows. The tomatoes didn’t get as big as outside but they were good. Also grew a few carrots believe it or not. Got a deep welled pot so the carrots could expand and grow and the vegetation (green part on top of soil) was really pretty as a house plant. Looked like a fern. Way cool. But one must remember to get a big enough pot for expansion of the roots so it thinks it is in a garden. Good luck. Have fun. Your friends will be amazed. Also to point, mixed miracle grow in large container and did the “continuous feed” thing. Whereas, they get “fed” on a continuous basis but not overly much to burn them.

This would be a hard project to accomplish, you would need a “well” insulated and heated green house!
