How Do I Grow Herbs From Seed?

Posted by admin on February 26, 2010

You picked the easiest thing to grow!
I had back luck with plants years ago and to get my confidance a friend suggested an herb garden.
yes they will take over each other if planted together so use medium sized pots that could sit on a windowsill so you can keep them growing through the winter.
You can get a kit or just pick up the seed, plant according to directions but generally they are small seeds and naturally they just fall onto the soil and germinate so usually just dust them on top of the soil and gently cover with soil using your hand to brush across them.
To ensure good drainage just put an inch or so of stones in the bottom of the pot before adding the soil.
I started mine outside in the summer and was able to bring them in for the winter.
Enjoy!

First plant the seeds according to the directions on the package. Next water them according to the directions on the package.
Finally, make sure the cops don’t find out you’re growing “herbs” in your back yard.

just plant the seed and loosely and lightly cover with soil. water. keep moist. some herb seeds require light to germinate. find out which ones. most seeds germinate in temperatures between 68 and 72 degrees farenheit

Start with a good planting mixture of soil…then determine how deep to plant the seeds…rule of thumb is not more then 2x the thickness of the seed. Provide the seed adequate moisture and a warm sunny location. A heating pad can be used if you’re indoors or in a colder climate. Research what types of hebs you are growing and try to mimic the optimum conditions specified. Provide for drainage so as not to swamp your seeds. Good luck.

Should be planted in individual pots because most herbs will take over whatever else you have planted
