In answer to your questions, yes and yes. Other good fruits that you can grow there are:
raspberry
blackberry
currants
gooseberry
blueberry
huckleberry
sparkleberry
lingonberry
apples
cherries
quince
plums
peaches
pears
seaberries
grapes
mulberry
elderberry
You can grow apples, pears, peaches, plums, cherries, nectarines, persimmons, quinces, raspberries, blackberries, black raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, melons of all sorts….pretty much all fruit excluding tropical ones like banana, coconut, guava, etc.
For strawberries, the best way to start a patch is to buy plants, or bare roots, in spring. Plan for about 25 plants per person who likes to eat them in your household.
Melons, watermelons & such are annuals. Plant the seeds directly in the ground when danger of frost is past.
For fruit trees – plant in spring, as that is usually when you can find young trees available. If you can FIND them in the fall, that’s a good time to plant, too.
The other berries that are brambles – usually canes and plants can be found in the spring.
