Would grain, fruit or vegetables grow faster? Would they be stunted or inedible or not contain the right vitamins and minerals? Could I get a maple tree to produce beautiful autumn leaves all year round…?
I don’t have the facilities to do an experiment, so please don’t tell me to try it and see.
Anybody ever tried anything like this? PLEASE, NO POT-GROWING STORIES! That’s not what this is for. Any links to scientific studies that have actually tried this?
Thanks for all your serious answers!

From Publishers Weekly

From first sentence to last, Coleman’s ( The New Organic Gardener ) book is a delight–an earnest guide written with an impish sense of humor. It will refresh anyone who wants to get the most from a vegetable garden yet doesn’t want to devote too much time and energy to the process. Apparently Coleman thoroughly enjoys every phase of gardening–from planting crops to weeding. Who else has ever suggested, only half in jest, dancing with a hoe? Or keeping a pair of ducks for pest patrol? This is that kind of book. It’s also a book full of valuable information on how to harvest fresh vegetables and salad ingredients literally year-round–yet without an expensive greenhouse or indoor light garden set-up.
Amazon.com Review

The ubiquitous For Dummies series, while not known for pretty illustrations or lush photography, does manage to pack the maximum amount of information into an easy-to-read format–something that gardeners with an eye on the financial bottom line love. For vegetable gardeners, the right information is especially important, because if you don’t end up with edible food on the table, you’ve failed. Charlie Nardozzi and the National Gardening Association editors seem comfortingly aware of this fact, but they also want to make vegetable gardening fun and interesting, and to that end there’s a lot more here than just the standard tomatoes and zucchini. Bok choy, fingerling potatoes, kabocha squash, daiko (more…)

Do you know what the best feature is in All New Square Foot Gardening? Sure, there are ten new features in this all-new, updated book. Sure, it’s even simpler than it was before. Of course, you don’t have to worry about fertilizer or poor soil ever again because you’ll be growing above the ground. But, the best feature is that “anyone,” “anywhere” can enjoy a Square Foot garden. Children, adults with limited mobility, even complete novices can achieve spectacular results. But, let’s get back to the ten improvements. You’re going to love them. 1) New Location – Move your garden closer to your house by eliminating single-row gardening.
